Mountain gorilla Tracking in Uganda

Bwindi Gorilla Forest National  Park is one of the tropical rainforest found in southwestern Uganda on the edge of the western arm of the Great East African Rift Valley, about 530km from Uganda.

The Gorilla Forest National Park is well known for its Mountain Gorilla populations and unforgettable gorilla tracking experience; it also offers some of the finest montane forest birding in Africa and is a key destination for any birder on Safari to Uganda. Amongest the numerous possibilities are no fewer than 23 of Uganda’s 24 Albertine Rift endemics, including spectacular, globally threatened species such as Shelley’s Crimson wing and the African Green Broadbill. Bwindi Gorilla Forest National Park is one of the few tropical rain forests in Africa to have flourished throughout the last Ice Age and it is home to about half of the worlds mountain gorillas.

This Gorilla Forest National Park is well known allover for its outstanding gorilla tracking, and the same gorilla park provides refuge to elephant, chimpanzee, monkeys and various small antelope and bird species.Remember, if you book a Uganda safari experience without having Gorilla Tracking Experience  then you will have missed an opportunity to see these rare and threatened gorillas. The variant biodiversity is supported by the fact that Bwindi Gorilla Forest Park is extremely old and also its slopes extend over a broad attitudinal range of about 1400 m above sea level, enabling habitats ranging from lowland forest to Afromontane vegetation

When to go on Gorilla safari – Uganda?

Most people ask this question, when would be the best time to go on gorilla safari to Uganda. Uganda is known as a whole round travel destination to any tourist planning to visit the country either for Gorilla, chimpanzee tracking, wildlife experience, birding safaris, adventure safaris  among others…. This fact can be explained clearly due to its climate and location to the equator. The other factor making Uganda a one of the top 10 tourism destinations, throughout the year is Lake Victoria and its unique weather patterns to the climate. Uganda, the home of the mountain gorilla is blessed with mainly two rainy seasons; the short wet season starts from October to November follow by the long rainy season from Mid-march to May.  However, people refer the best time to visit Uganda for Uganda safaris being best during the dry season.  And majority of adventure travelers choose to go on gorilla safari from May to September, and to February since these are the months, with less rainfalls and to be honest, it is sunny in most of the destinations.  When come to December, it is one of the busiest months of the year in within majority of our national park and preferably, one would be advised to book his accommodation facilities – if you intend to- in time to avoid disappointments. During the Christmas season, most Ugandans plan to take vacations to national parks so it’s always a peak season in the month of December.

The rainy season in Uganda affects people’s travels but that doesn’t mean that they don’t completely travel since this season is combined of both rains and sun shine. This means that the sun comes out as soon as it has just rained and most safari activities are able to be carried out without any disturbance. Mountain gorilla trekking as well as chimpanzee trekking goes on even during the rainy season and the national parks are fully in operation.

In Uganda, the average temperatures are at 21.5 C and 71 F; these also drop at night to around 54 F which affects the altitude. Rainfall ranges between 1000-2000mm every year. However, throughout the year the sky is clear which supports most safari vacations. These climate changes have brought about changes in weather patterns hence making it harder to predict the seasons of the tourism year.

The Uganda gorilla permits are still at $ 600 and always advisable to book and purchase it in advance.
